URGENT NOTICE REGARDING INDIAN HAWTHORNSThe long, cold winter and freezing winds have been devastating to many shrubs and plants in the Charlotte metro region, especially Indian Hawthorns. If your Indian Hawthorn is damaged by winter cold, it is possible that the plant may recover. To determine if a branch is dead, scratch away a bit of bark with your fingernail or a pruning knife. If the layer below the bark is green or a moist-looking white, it's likely the branch can recover; if it's brown and brittle, that area is dead.
Pruning the dead areas of your plant may help it regrow slowly with time. Keeping your plant well-watered when it begins growing in spring can also help it recover from winter injury.
