Fall and winter are the best times of the year to renovate your landscape, install new trees and shrubs, or add a paver patio. If you are considering a project in the near future we would love the opportunity to work with you!
Fall Turf Tips:Proper maintenance is vital to the health of your lawn. Please rake or blow all leaves and debris off your lawn at all times of the year, especially in the fall.
Any leaves left on the lawn can cause a harmful layer that will inhibit sunlight from reaching the leaf blades below, hence smothering the turf. Don’t allow leaves to sit for weeks on end (or even days) because the grass underneath will suffer.
Keeping your turf clean in the fall will greatly improve the chances of having a healthy and strong lawn in the spring. Leaf removal and watering are the two most important functions of lawn care in the fall.

ARMYWORMS!
Fall armyworms are infesting the Carolinas again this fall.
How do you know if you have ARMYWORMS in your lawn?
Armyworm damage is most common in turf areas adjacent to natural areas, large hedgerows, and/or sides of homes that reflect or absorb afternoon sunlight. Armyworm damage appears as if an area of turf has died or has been sprayed with Round-Up. Upon close inspection of the lawn you may see chewed / eaten blades of grass, green fecal pellets or dark brown larvae in the thatch layer.
What to do if you have armyworms?
If you see damage to your lawn that seems to occur in just a few days, even overnight and spreads each day, please call our office for treatment ASAP! You can request service by calling our office @ 704-821-1900, or atSecureTurf.com
What if I ignore the armyworms?
If the infestation is severe enough, 1) failure to treat for them may cause the lawn to die completely in these areas, 2) the armyworms will eat the new grass you have recently over seeded and the new seedlings will die, causing the lawn to be thin and sparse next year, 3) bare and thin areas from the damage will most likely fill in with weeds if it is not reseeded.
Can you treat these critters on you own?
Yes. If you would like to combat these pests yourself, there are several products available from local hardware and garden centers that may work. If you choose the "do-it-yourself" route, we strongly encourage you to read all the provided label instructions and follow them exactly. The most important thing is that they are treated soon.
